There is a question we ask after some big event in our lives. Maybe we ask this question after high school or college graduation, the birth of a baby or after being laid off from a job; some have asked this question after being diagnosed with some devastating disease. This question has also been asked after some catastrophic event; maybe an earthquake. We ask this question after some inspiring event or maybe after we experience the loss of someone who is near and dear to us.
I am certain that people in Texas, Florida, Mexico and LA California are asking this question. What is the Question? Where do we go from here?
Fifty years ago, August 11, 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his “Where Do We Go from here sermon” at the annual convention of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. I find that there is still potency in the question; where do we go from here?
Hurricane Harvey in Texas, Irma in Florida, the devastating fire in LA, the earthquake in Mexico; with all of this fresh in my mind, Dr. King’s words ring truer than ever before.
I submit that this is no time for romantic illusions and empty philosophical debates. We need to take a hard look at our association. We need to ask the hard questions. We need to hear from GOD.
This is a time for action. What was effective 50 years ago is not working. What is needed is a strategy for change, a tactical program that will bring us into a new mainstream. We must be proactive and not reactive.
In answering the question where do we go from here? We only have 3 options!
The choice is ours. What will we do?
I say, we should move forward and hit the ground running!.
