March 2019

Acts chapter 20:28 reads, “Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood."

Beloved, as laborers in the vineyard we spend countless hours preparing our messages, being attentive to our respective congregations, acting as ambassadors for God and the congregations in which He has entrusted us with…but what about time for ourselves?

We are in a season where Pastors are taking their own lives due to mental fatigue, depression, and exhaustion. Every time we turn on the television or read the newspaper, we find another Pastor has either stepped down or committed suicide. The numbers keep growing at an alarming rate. So, this month, I would like us to consider these thoughts:

     A. As Pastors, are we paying enough attention to ourselves?
          a. Vacation
          b. Family day

     B. As Pastors, are we taking enough time off to recharge and rejuvenate our bodies?
          a. Unplug day
          b. Pastor Meditation day
          c. Carefree day

     C. As Pastors, are we making ourselves available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?
          a. Did God call for us to do that?

     D. As Pastors, are we considering our time as much as we are considering our congregations time?

     E. As Pastors, do we have a Pastor or Father in the Ministry who is praying for us as much as we are praying for our congregation?

     F. As Pastors, are we our own worse nightmare?

As you ponder these thoughts…the answer is no (open ended for you to ponder)
