Celebrating Black History 365 24/7

February is the month of LOVE…and God is all about LOVE. The Bible says, “For God so LOVED the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 and “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you LOVE one another.” John 13:35

February is also Black History Month and celebrating Black History in the church is important because our people would not have made it through those terrible years of being enslaved if it had not been for the Lord.

Black History Month has EVERYTHING to do with the Church. Christ was right there leading and guiding our ancestors. Many people call him Martin Luther King, Jr. but they forget that he was Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. They called Harriet Tubman “Little Moses” because she ran the Underground Railroad and led many slaves to freedom just like Moses led the Israelites out of bondage. And Isabella “Bell” Baumfree changed her name to Sojourner Truth because she said "The Spirit calls me, and I must go." And there are so many others….

You see while in slavery, they found Christ. While suffering, they found Christ! They called out to Him in their anguish and He answered.

The Bible brought them hope when their children were being torn out of their arms; The Bible brought them hope when they were being sold on the auction block; The Bible brought them hope when women were being raped by men and their husbands could not do anything to protect them, and The Bible brought them hope when they were being hanged from trees. The Bible taught them not to give up and not to give in but to stand and keep on fighting.

We have one month a year to celebrate our heritage. Although, we can celebrate our heritage everyday, this is the month that we are at the forefront.
